Documents Required For Work Permit

The employer is responsible for applying for a work permit on behalf of the employee. The necessary documents required to apply for a work permit in Lithuania are as follows.

  • Qualification Proof for the job, such as education and previous professional experience
  • Personal Identifying Information.

    The employee needs to apply for a national visa along with a work permit. There are several other documents required for the application, including

  • An application form filled and completed with all the correct information required, using the electronic application form.
  • A passport issued within the last 10 years, must have 2 or more blank pages and should be valid for at least 3 months after the visa duration.
  • A passport-size colored photograph, with white or light background.
  • An electronically submitted letter of mediation from the employer.
  • A work permit
  • Proof of sufficient funds to provide for themselves while in Lithuania and means of income.
  • Proof of health insurance
Work Permit Application Process

Firstly, the applicant needs to obtain a work permit. The employer will apply for this permit on behalf of the applicant-employee.

The applicant needs to locate the closest Lithuanian consulate or embassy.

An application form is to be filled out for a national visa.

Gather all the documents required.

Submit the documents to the embassy or consulate and attend the appointment.

It usually takes around 14 days for the process computation. Wait for an answer.

Types of Work Visas

There are 2 types of work visas in Lithuania one may apply to enter the country:

  • Schengen Visa (Short Stay Visa Type C)

  • Individuals can enter Lithuania without a visa if they plan on staying for less than 30 days. Exceptions are made if they are coming from the Netherlands, Latvia, or Andorra. The Schengen Visa is valid for a stay of up to 90 days and includes travel between 25 countries that administer the Schengen rules. There's also the Schengen transit (A) visa, which entitles travelers to stay in transit areas at international airports during stopovers or when changing aircraft. Any foreigner who has a Schengen visa can visit the Republic of Lithuania for the amount of time designated on their visa. They will not be able to stay in Lithuania for more than 3 months within a 6-month period.

  • A long-stay visa (class D)

  • This visa will be granted to an applicant, whose spouse enters the Czech Republic from a third country and establishes a family relationship with him or her. The spouse needs to acquire a residence permit for a long-term stay, at least for twelve months. The National Visa is available to individuals who wish to enter and stay in the country for a longer period. These visa types are valid for no more than 1 year. There are 2 main types of National Visa: It's a single-entry visa issued to foreigners who have obtained temporary or permanent residence in Lithuania. A multi-entry national visa: is granted to foreigners who come to Lithuania to work, study, or engage in legal activities. This can be done through an online portal, but applicants must have the necessary documents and procedures to accomplish incorporation. The business establishment must be achieved within 30 days.

Types of Visa

Type A visa is issued to third-country citizens. It allows them to pass through the international transit area of a lithuanian airport more than one. The A visa is valid for upto 6 months, plus 15 days in addition.

Type C Visa is issued for Transit with one, two, or more stays for the duration of the approved stay. It allows more than 2 entries into lithuania for a business stay, tourist stay, personal stay, and all the other types of stay. This visa is valid for upto 5 years including an additional period of 15 days. From the date of your first entry, the duration of your consecutive stays in lithuania should not exceed three months in any six-month period.

For a third country citizen who has been granted a work permit or a temporary stay before arriving in lithuania, you need a short-term visa in lithuania before getting a D Visa. D Visa is issued for one or more entries in lithuania. A D-Visa is valid for upto a period of six months.
